The Nuts and Bolts of Effective Legislative Advocacy
Session Summary:
We cannot expect our elected officials to know everything. In fact, sometimes it feels like they don't understand your practice or industry at all. It doesn't have to be this way. Medical practice leaders can play a critical role in shaping the policies that directly impact patient care, practice operations, and the sustainability of healthcare delivery. Legislative advocacy provides an opportunity to move beyond reacting to regulatory changes and instead actively influence the decisions being made at the state and federal levels. By building relationships with elected officials, sharing real-world insights from the front lines of healthcare, and engaging through professional organizations like MGMA, leaders can ensure that policymakers understand both the challenges and opportunities within medical practice. Whether through attending advocacy days, providing testimony, or simply maintaining ongoing communication with legislators, even small efforts can have a meaningful impact in advancing policies that support patients, providers, and the broader healthcare system.
